Some 2003 Summer Studies Student Comments
The following comments were written by students on the last day of the ARS Eastern USA Summer Studies Institute at the University of Connecticut-Storrs. • “Any other Summer Studies attendee could agree with me when I say this year’s program has been an eye opener to identity. Though involved with AYF for several years and raised by two strongly valued Armenian parents, the important education in Armenian history, culture, and heritage I have received in just three weeks has probably amounted to what I have learned in my lifetime. We have been challenged at an intense educational level by professors and specialists in their fields, and have been fortunate enough to create bonds with one another through discussion and debate of ourselves as Armenians and though the course material.” Teny Lorig Mishigian, Tecumseh, MI. • “This has been an amazing three-week experience. This is a priceless opportunity. If I had a chance to do this again, I would without hesitation.” Christopher Basmajian, W. Bloomfield, MI. • “I would recommend this program to any Armenian who is interested in furthering his/her knowledge in Armenian subjects. During the three weeks I spent here, I went from knowing almost nothing to having a well-rounded understanding of Armenian history, language, and culture. I can’t think of any better way to spend a part of my summer. A bonus of this program is the long lasting relationships formed between the students. This experience has affected me in many ways. I have gained a new appreciation for my Armenian heritage.” Kathryn Williams, Amherst, MA. • “This has been the one program that I have been to that has had an amazing effect on how I view my Armenian perspective now and has given me a whole new perspective as an individual. I think this is an amazing way of getting the youth together and teaching them this great Armenian history and culture. Hampig Shahinian, Sun Valley, CA. |
