PROVIDENCE
ARS RAISES MORE THAN $9,000 The
Armenian Relief Society ‘Ani’ and ‘Arax’ Chapters in Providence
raised more than $9,000 during its fundraising efforts for the Armenian
Relief Society Javakhk Fund. After
soliciting funds for a month, a special slide and video presentation was
held on Sunday, March 9, at the Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church Aramian
Hall, with over 70 people present. Ivan
Ardhaldjian—who has visited the Javakhk region—and Jirayr Beugekian
presented a very powerful and sensitive look about the life and
conditions of the Armenians in Javakhk. They are living in dire
conditions without the necessary utilities, adequate roads, lacking
proper social, medical, and educational services. The
ARS ‘Arax’ and ‘Ani’ Chapters each donated $1,000 to the
Armenian Relief Society Javakhk Fund; Levon and Nevarte Caprielian also
donated $1,000; Hattie Boyajian donated $900; and Stephen Mesrobian,
Aram Garabedian, and the Senior Ladies Auxiliary of the Sts. Vartanantz
Armenian Church each donated $500. Many
generous donations were received from various individuals. All those who
were present that day felt that we must all do what we can to help the
Armenians in Javakhk. The
ARS Javakhk Fund was established by the Armenian Relief Society to
assist the Armenians of Javakhk with their financial and educational
needs, and to improve the region’s infrastructure. In
this respect, the ARS Eastern Region US adopted three projects for the
current year: the creation of a Youth Center, the establishment of a
sawmill, and the provision of three remote villages with electric power.
Part of the funds required for the realization of these projects has already been collected. The next fundraiser will be held in Boston, MA. |
