Binghampton ARS Chapter Hosts Winter Tea

The Binghamton Anahid chapter of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) hosted a winter tea at the home of Dorothy Speight on February 1, with 29 people in attendance. Refreshments during the event were donated by the individual chapter members.

Ungerhoui Shakeh Basmajian from the ARS Eastern United States Regional Board attended the tea event and gave an extremely interesting lecture about the humanitarian efforts of the ARS worldwide.

The Armenians of our area are diverse and somewhat scattered. Months, even years pass without seeing each other. What a joy it was to have so many come together in Dotty’s home, sharing many hugs, health inquiries, and memories of our foremothers.

We met old friends, newcomers, daughters, and granddaughters. There is a special sweetness when Armenian hearts connect.

It was also a successful in that it brought Armenian women in the community together, enlightened them about the work of the ARS and encouraged them to join in the effort. New members for the local chapter were recruited. Chapter members will follow up this event by inviting the attendees to the next regular meeting of the Binghamton chapter.
